Where to begin with this race... The delay was well worth the race and the finish. I like to say a lot of people just look at the finish of this race rather then the entire thing as a whole. There was so much action that you couldn't photograph all of it! This was an absolute thriller, and I'm glad I caught the closest finish in NASCAR history on photo, which was a 0.001 second difference!
If there was one race I could go back to in my life, outside of the cup race that happened a day later, this would be the race I would choose. The amount of action in this race was something I couldn't comprehend. This was such an amazing race to shoot, especially with the time change of day to night, and having to change my camera settings to account for the light level changing. This can only be described as one of my favorite races of all time!
I really used this race as a test run as to what I could do with my new lens on my camera (Sigma 150-600 f/5-6.3). When I first started shooting the race, I couldn't believe the photos I was gathering. This lens was going to be an absolute killer for the entire weekend, especially paired with my Nikon D7500, with 8 fps.
This was my first ever photographing NASCAR and cars traveling at high speeds. As you can obviously tell, some photos are not the best, as I was still learning. But this is what kickstarted my interest in photography and wanting to be a sports photographer!
